Our Security Policy

How do I know the Mgender website is secure?

At Mgender we take Security very, very seriously! When you enter any personal details on the Mgender website you will be entering a completely secure area. We use a 128 bit strong SSL encryption (also known as a Digital Certificate) provided by GlobalSign, one of the largest Certificate Authorities in the world.

Check the GlobalSign seal to view the GlobalSign certificate and assure yourself that our site is secure and that we are who we say we are.

The SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption converts the characters you enter into bits of code that are then securely transmitted over the Internet. SSL is a protocol developed by Netscape that enables a web browser and a web server to communicate securely; it allows the web browser to authenticate the web server. The SSL protocol requires the web server to have a digital certificate installed on it in order for an SSL connection to be made. Thanks to an SSL-enabled web server and a GlobalSign SSL certificate, a customer connecting to the Mgender website can be assured of three things:

Authentication: The website really is owned by the company that installed the certificate.
Message privacy: Using a unique "session key", SSL encrypts all information exchanged between our web server and our customers, such as credit card numbers and all personal data. This ensures that your personal information cannot be viewed if unauthorised parties intercept it.
Message integrity: The data cannot be tampered with over the Internet.
Our customers benefit because they know that by checking the details in the certificate, they can assure themselves that the website they are dealing with is in fact the Mgender website. You also know that a third party on the Internet cannot intercept your credit card or personal details.

How do I know I'm in a secure area?

You will know you are in a Secure Server web page because it is different to a standard web page - look for the Padlock symbol, which will be highlighted, and in a closed position. The Padlock symbol on Internet Explorer versions earlier than version 7 is at the bottom and on Internet Explorer 7, Firefox and Netscape on the top toolbar. The web address will also change to start with https:// to indicate that you are now within a Secure Server. When this happens you will know that any information you type into that page will be encrypted before being sent over the internet.

What happens to my credit card details?

It is a common misconception that handing over your credit card in a restaurant or passing your details over the phone is safer than using it over the internet. This is not so. Your card details can very easily be compromised in such situations. When you confirm your order with Mgender your credit card details are encrypted into an unbreakable code prior to being sent via a secure link (provided by Lloyds TSB Cardnet's˜authorised payment gateway company, Secure Trading) to be authorised by the appropriate card issuer at Lloyds TSB Cardnet or American Express. We do not retain any of your card details whatsoever at Mgender and you will need to re-enter your card details for each new order placed. From a security point of view this is much more acceptable than having us store your details on our own server.

If I'm still not convinced can I pay over the phone or by fax?

Unfortunately we no longer accept card details over the phone.

We will accept cheques but this does mean a wait until it is cleared before sending the goods.

Verified by VISA and Mastercard® Securecode are security methods used in the verification process during an on-line transaction.

Telephone or fax orders are NOT processed via Verified by VISA or Mastercard Securecode as they require the card pin number which must be kept safe and never given out.
